The orientation of the Seyfert nucleus in Markarian 348
Multi-frequency observations of Mrk 348 are presented consisting of 2 epochs of MERLIN data at 5 GHz, ISOPHOT data at 170, 90, 60 and 25 μm, NOT images at U, B, R and I bands and data at 1350μm from the archive for SCUBA. The new optical images reveal a disrupted arm that ends towards the eastern companion of Mrk 348, consistent with the hypothesis that Mrk 348 and its companion form an interac...
متن کاملMERLIN imaging of the maser flare in Markarian 348
MERLIN images of Mrk 348 at 22 GHz show H 2 O maser emission at 0.02 – 0.11 Jy, within ∼ 0.8 pc of the nucleus. This is the first direct confirmation that molecular material exists close to the Seyfert 2 nucleus. Mrk 348 was observed in 2000 May one month after Falcke et al. (2000) first identified the maser in single-dish spectra. The peak maser flux density has increased about threefold. The ...
متن کاملA Radio Study of the Seyfert galaxy Markarian 6: Implications for Seyfert life-cycles
We have carried out an extensive radio study with the Very Large Array on the Seyfert 1.5 galaxy Mrk 6 and imaged a spectacular radio structure in the source. The radio emission occurs on three different spatial scales, from ∼7.5 kpc bubbles to ∼1.5 kpc bubbles lying nearly orthogonal to them and a ∼1 kpc radio jet lying orthogonal to the kpc-scale bubble. To explain the complex morphology, we ...
متن کاملLocalised neutral hydrogen absorption towards the radio jet of Markarian 6
We present ∼ 0. ′′15 (56 pc) resolution MERLIN observations of neutral hydrogen (H i) λ21 cm absorption detected towards the arcsecond-scale radio jet of the Seyfert 1.5 galaxy Markarian 6. Absorption is detected only towards a bright, compact radio feature located, in projection, ∼ 380 pc north of the likely location of the optical nucleus. Based on comparison with an archival HST image, we pr...
متن کاملRadio, optical and photopolarimetric observations of Markarian 421 around the great 1996-97 outburst
We present the results of radio, optical and photopolarimetric observations of Mkn 421 from October 1994 to June 1997. During our monitoring the object showed many flares and major outbursts over a large span of temporal scales. A large optical outburst occurred in the winter 1996-97, followed by a radio outburst with a delay of only 30-60 days. In the same period Mkn 421 increased its polariza...
